Chess Coach
Volt's own opening trainer for club players: pick an opening, play it against a coach that stays in the book, and build a repertoire you can rely on.
The Challenge
Plenty of club games are decided in the opening, and most practice tools do not help with it. Play an engine and the game leaves your opening after a few moves. Read a book and the lines slip away once you are at the board.
The app needed to keep each game inside the opening being learned, say clearly when theory ends, and make progress visible without greeting a new player with ratings, streaks, and padlocks.
What We Built
Chess Coach is one of Volt's own products, built and run in house rather than for a client. Volt built it around one idea: learn one opening at a time by playing it until the moves are automatic.
Practice
PRACTICEThe home screen shows the opening in progress and one button to keep practicing. On the board, the coach answers from a real opening book and tells you when the book runs out.
Openings and Variations
OPENINGSEvery opening carries its real variations. Drill one line on its own, or play the whole opening and let the coach vary its reply.
Progress
PROGRESSA weekly view of how many of your moves were theory, and which lines are now solid.
The Outcome
Chess Coach turns opening study into practice at the board, one opening at a time, with a clear signal for when a line is learned. It is live on Google Play.
